I would much rather see unconventional bullpen management and have your best relievers being used in the highest leverage situations. Pitching in the bottom of the ninth and in extra innings on the road in a tie game is about as high a leverage situation as it gets. Pitching with a one-run lead is easier.

Amazing how the mood can turn from sour to above average in about 20 minutes thanks to Travis Hafner.
