Cliff, Winn always reminded me more of B Real from Cypress Hill.

IIRC, they said that Winn was a serviceable CF’er.

In Seattle, he had three things going against him

1. Ken Griffey Jr.
2. Mike Cameron
3. Growing pains learning the CF position. After he got it down, he wasn’t that bad out there. A lot of people got hung up on what he did when he was acquainting himself with the position.

Didn’t the M’s already try Winn in CF? I don’t think that worked out very well.

I’ve been secretly hoping for Winn to come to NY to solve the CF problem. He’s not a difference maker, but he’s a great glove with speed and high average that always seems to have his head in the game. He also bares a slight facial resemblence to Bernie (the nose is wrong, but . . .). He’s also a free agent at the end of the year, so if he came cheap in a trade (and his impending free agency might help with that), the Yanks could test drive him before making a decision on whom to offer a deal to play CF in ’06 and beyond.

The first, second and third consideration is can the guy play a real good CF. Worrying about power from that position, especially with this lineup, is beyond silly.

My two cents on Byrnes: Avoid him. He only has value vs. LHP.
