Mo Future

Yogi is 80. Whitey will soon be 79. And, Scooter, bless him, will soon be 88. When they pass, who will be the “Greatest Living Yankee”?
Mattingly? Bernie? Gator? Roy White?
For many, it will be Mariano Rivera – and I think few could gripe with that selection. Thank you Herb Raybourn.

PS – I know, what about Jeter?
Well, Mo does have a 4 year head start on him in the age department.
Reggie Jackson was the symbol of Yankee resurgence after fifteen years of miserable teams. I’ll go with Reggie. (I was going to say “Clemens” just to get a rise out of Steve)
If Reggie, then why not Rickey?

=========================
I’ve always felt that Rickey didn’t get his due in NY.
But to answer your question, 1987
Obviously, it also doesn’t help that the Yanks never made the playoffs when #24 was batting leadoff. Reggie has 1977, 78, 80, & 81 on his resume
With all respect to MO, if it’s a pitcher, that’s pretty bad. So no MO or Ron Guidry.
Rickey!? No way Jose. Rickey was all about Rickey as Rickey will tell you.
Reggie, not enough years. And no true fan will forget his backhanded remark regarding Thurman Munson.
Miguel Rivera?
Dave (Mr. May) Winfield?
Slim pickings.
I say Donald Arthur Mattingly. As Paul O’neill once remarked, its still his team.
If Mo makes the HOF, does that not trump Donnie?
No love for #16?
The assumption is that he would be gone.
**The assumption is that he would be gone.**
OIC.
I’d have to go with Mattingly or Guidry.
IMO, in order to qualify as the “GLY” you have to be developed from within the organization, and if you don’t spend your entire career with them, an overwhelming number of years must be spent here.
Well, you really cannot choose Guidry over MO, as much as I love Gator. But again, a pitcher as GLY? As great as MO has been, no.
