Opening Week 2006

The Yankees open the 2006 season with three games in Oakland followed by three games in Los Angeles/Anaheim.
Then they come home to the Stadium for three with the Royals (according to most reports) – and then go back on the road again to the domes in Minnesota and Toronto.
First of all, the Yankees have to play something like 11 of their first 14 games on the road. What’s up with that? That needed good start in 2006 may be tough.
But, if you have to do it, at least it’s warm weather sites and domes.
I see the bright side in all of this. Getting rid of an annoying west coast trip in the first week isn’t so bad. It’s one less cross-country flight the Yanks will have to make when they can’t afford it in the middle of the year. Ditto going to the homerdome in mid-season.
Totally off-subject. It is now November 8th. There is only one week left in the negotiation window with Hideki Matsui. Why isn’t there more urgency here? I really hope Cashman wielding more power doesn’t mean he’s cutting ties with Mat-soo. I’m a big fan of Godzilla’s and I don’t like the laid-back vibe the Yanks are putting out there with these negotiations.
I agree, get one annoying west coast trip out of the way ASAP. Plus, you should then, theoretically– I haven looked at the schedule– finish up the season with more home games.
Early games are pretty much a crapshoot. No sense worrying (TM Jen) about them. Of course, by the time Bud gets through with the schedule, they’ll be coming off exhibition games in Taiwan, Cuba, Iraq, and Antarctica.
