Yankees, Matsui reach agreement on four-year deal

The New York Yankees announced today that they have reached an agreement with left fielder Hideki Matsui on a four-year contract extension through the 2009 season.

Rumor has it that it’s $52 mill for 4 years. Seeing the way Matsui played the last three years, and knowing the market rate for stars, I would have offered $12 mill a year for four. So, I have no issue with the extra million a year. It’s a fair deal.

Next up, finding Mothra to play CF.

I couldn’t be happier. Congrats to Hideki on the contract. Arn Tellem is a dirty bastard for making me suffer like this. Now onto finding a bullpen.

This is the third clean, crisp step in this offseason.

      #1: Cashman
      #2: Coaching Staff
      #3: Matsui-san

      here’s to 3 or 4 more.

Hey, they just exercised the option on Sturtze as well, there’s one more. Just kidding, although that’s probably not a bad move for $1.5 million.

Sturtze is at $2.1 million if you count the luxury tax implications – don’t know if that makes a difference.

The bullpen can wait. I’d like to see who gets nontendered first.

I’d rather attention be put on finding a CF’er that won’t embarrass himself on either side of the ball
