No, I’m suggesting this injury, along with his other injuries are proof that he’s brittle. He has 8 years in the league, and he was heathy in two of them. I’d say he’s brittle.

I agree with bailey on this one. The Yanks are actually usually pretty good about this kind of stuff. IF he is in any pain, why risk it? It’s early in the season, and Pavano has been off the team for such a long period of time that rushing him back isn’t even worth the gamble. I’m not saying Pavano’s value as a pitcher is high, I’m just saying what’s the point of bringing him back 2 weeks earlier if he’s going to miss the rest of the season because of it. Better safe than sorry. Plus, it’s obvious that Jaret Wright is a competent replacement…

I’m not doubting the veracity of his injuries. Pavano was brittle before he became a Yankee, it should come as no suprise to anyone if he’s brittle as a Yankee.

I don’t get why people dog Pavano about this stuff. It’s not him — it’s the decision-makers (Cashman, etc.) who are holding him back. Pavano wants to pitch. They just won’t let him. They made him wait weeks before he could pitch BP and then get into a game. He finally gets into a game, pitched one inning, and then they limit him to just one more inning in his next trip. Now they sideline him because of a bruised ass. Give me a break. They are (consciously or not) making Pavano look horrible. They need to just let this guy pitch.

Of course, people think this all sounds like a bullsh-t injury and that Carl is weak and being a baby, but if his hip is truly hurt (and not just his butt), then this could be serious — because every time you drive forward to pitch you flex your thigh and glutes, which means he could inadvertently alter his motion, which led to his shoulder problems last year (a sore ass can, in fact, lead to back and shoulder pain — if you’re a pitcher).
