I was just using the Complete Baseball Encyclopedia to see the Yankees hitters to date:

Bernie Williams’ Offensive Winning Percentage stands out the most to me here. Two-oh-seven?

If Williams does that for the season, and qualifies for the batting title, it would be an all-time low mark for a Yankees player.

Even if Bernie only gets 300 PA, that mark would be the lowest (for those with at least 300 PA) since Alvaro Espinoza posted a mark of .217 in 1990.

For what it’s worth, in 1985, Bobby Meacham had an OWP of .317. Maybe that Bernie Meacham mention I had the other day was an insult to Meacham?

And yet Joe will keep on trotting him out there until he gets hauled off the field on a stretcher.

But everyone knows Bernie is a late starter. He never hits in April (or May or June or July…uh, you get the picture). For those who thought Bernie would replace Sierra in his role last season, think again. Sierra, injuries aside, had way too many ABs in 2005 (not to mention appearances in the field…gasp!). Torre is so besotted with Bernie that in a 2 run game, two men on, no outs, late inning, Rivera locked and loaded, he won’t either ask Bernie to bunt or pinch hit Crosby to bunt for him (and replace him defensively). Bring back Zim (or anyone with a modicum of baseball sense).

I saw “But everyone knows Bernie is a late starter” and I was just about to reply with “There’s being a late starter and then there’s being over the hill……” and then I saw it was you, Johnny, and realized it was tongue in cheek…….
