Bernie’s May Days
During May, to date, Bernie Williams has produced at a rate of .315/.367/.427 in 89 ABs. Sure, an OPS of .794 is not awesome - but, it doesn’t stink either.
I just thought it was fair to point this out as many - including myself - have been on his case about not producing this season.
If Bernie can keep his OPS around .800 for the rest of the season, he can help this team. Will he? We’ll find out. Stay tuned.

I will gladly accept an OPS of .794 from Bernie. When Matsui left, his OPS was only .806 or so, obviously we could expect his OPS to improve, but if Bernie is producing close to what Matsui WAS producing, then it is ok. Assuming I made sense.
Cabrera’s OPS is also .816, so he has filled in quite nicely, and certainly above any expectations people would have had for him.
I’ll just hope his OPS doesn’t fall below .700. I think a season of .750 is what we can expect from Bernie at this point.
I’ve definitely been a resident Bernie-basher this year so I’m going to have to eat my shoe on this one for now. I’m glad Bernie’s been able to contribute thus far and it certainly would make a great story for him (and the team) if, with one foot in the grave, he was able to rally and post his best season in a few years — especially with all the injuries to our OF. Go Bernie!
Yeah but what is his OPS righthanded vs. lefthanded?
