Such hostilities (although these register rather low, of course) are one of the dark part of the blogosphere – and the internet. It was possible to highlight your comments without attacking you personally. You specifically have to want to say those things and that probably says something about you if you do.

You didn’t personally attack Mets fans, any Mets bloggers or Millege, you commented on two rookie outfielders playing in the same city and your comments were reasonable. This is a Yankees blog.

That’s all I have to say.

My basic point was that no team (and their fans) can take the “moral high road” when it comes to a player.

There’s a reason for the disparity in coverage; according to their numbers in the minors, Milledge was a better player; he put up better numbers. Not saying Cabrera’s a slouch, but it is what it is. Add in that he’s a 1st round pick, and apparently has this “attitude” angle covered, is it any wonder he gets more press? It’s what they like. I mean, as great as Bernie has been, he isn’t very quotable.

“While some might say that it’s wrong to point at something bad to make something else look good…” Sounds like he’s going after him to me. Especially with the “fan boy” disclaimer. Don’t think it was meant with malice, but I stand by it. The only reason those posts (articles) were made because of the perception (reality?) that Milledge has (is?) a “problem”

Raf, every team in baseball has had bad guys on their teams. The Mets can’t take the moral high ground either, then — the whole ’86 team was rotten. They were practically a traveling drug rehab.

Anyway, Steve wasn’t going after Lastings. He was just saying what a joy the baggage-free Melky has been. And considering the disparity in press coverage of those two — Lastings is apparently a superstud and a future HOF and Melky is a “fourth outfielder” — it was perfectly appropriate.

Anyway, the blogger has a point; Yankee fans can’t take the “moral high ground” when it comes to “character” given some of the players that have worn the pinstripes over the years.
