Twenty bucks to the attendant gets you a spot right up front for most any game. It's a useful tip for those that might attend more games but can't because of the time constraints of getting in and out of the Bronx. For a group of friends or family trying to attend a weeknight game from NJ, CT or the Island it's the difference between getting out of the Bronx in 15 minutes after the game or an hour. If you save 45 minutes on the front end and 45 minutes on the back end of your evening then the $20 bucks extra is worth it, especially for a carload of people.

Well, when you don't have a home team (although they are in the same state in this case), there are all kinds of different reasons you might pick a team. For instance, as an Omaha native, I became a Yankee fan when I was 6 because in my first pack of baseball cards I pulled a Don Mattingly 1987 Topps All-Star. Since it said he was an all-star, I figured he was the best player, and boom, that was my team. I'd say I got pretty lucky:) Hell, looking at some of the all-stars from that season's set (Tony Bernazard of Cleveland comes to mind), I was damn lucky.

I later found out both of my grandfathers, who died shortly before I was born, were huge Yanks fans, mainly because they were always the team that played on national TV and they had Mickey Mantle, whom people from the midwest (presumably those not in St. Louis) looked at as one of their own.

You're probably right about WGN, but that's when older relatives need to step in and set you straight. For whatever reason we get TBS here in Jersey and when I was young and impressionable, I was on my way to becoming an Atlanta Braves fan.

My father took me aside and explained that we are Yankees fans in this family. I've been on the straight and narrow ever since.

You're probably right about it being WGN-related. My youngest kid likes the Cubs because they were available on WGN _and_ they played day games that he could watch before he had to go to bed.
