Jays G.M.: Yanks Need Pitching

From the Toronto Globe & Mail -

He [being Blue Jays G.M. J.P. Ricciardi] wonders about the Yankees. No, he worries about the Yankees. Not the Red Sox, who lead the American League East. The Yankees.

“If the Yankees go out and add another bat, you know, I’m okay with that,” Ricciardi said. “I’m okay with matching up with their starting rotation as it is right now. But if all of a sudden you’re going from [Mike] Mussina to [Randy] Johnson to, say, [Roger] Clemens, that’s different. If the Yankees get Roger Clemens or Andy Pettitte or . . . you get the picture.”

This is pretty much what I said yesterday.

It’s not hitting that the Yankees need to separate them from the pack – it’s pitching. If a G.M. from another team realizes this, does Brian Cashman realize it too?

The Yanks aren’t getting either Rocket or Andy back since Houston’s very much in the NL Wild Card race. JP Ricciardi should worry less about the Yanks and more about his own team which might lose Troy Glaus to a bum knee and has a strange fungus breeding in their stadium that dropped Alex Rios a few weeks ago. I don’t mean that in a bad way, I know Ricciardi didn’t say anything negative. I just think he’s got his hand full, even if everyone on the planet thinks that the Blue Jays are the next big thing in baseball. They’re STILL in 3rd place, after all.

But Sidney Ponson! But Kris Wilson!

I hear Jose Canseco might be available to pitch also.

Heck, name me a team that wouldn’t want to add another starting pitcher.

Like the Blue Jays couldn’t use a quality arm?

Andy Pettitte, he’s having a horrible season in a weak league; after being hurt in 2004.

And yes, I’m sure Cashman realizes this, we all do. But what is available for a fair price?
