From Newsday -
Infielder Frank Menechino signed a minor-league contract and will report to Triple-A Columbus.
I’m calling it now. The Yankees will activate him after September 1st as a back-up. He’ll get into a game somewhere and win it with a clutch hit or a great play in the field.
And, hey, that one win may be the difference between making the post-season or not. I like this move by Cashman. No downside – whatsoever – but could pay a bonus in a few weeks.

Frankie the Yankee!
Isn’t Menechino a good friend of Giambi’s?
I’d take Menechino over Green.
Maybe we can get Menechino to pitch tonight instead of Ponson.
Couldn’t he come up before the 1st? After this weekend, they won’t be needing 13 pitchers and Andy will still be on the DL. By the time Andy comes off of it, it will already be September.
Good point on Andy. I’m not sure that Torre would want Frankie on the post-season roster – so, I don’t know if 8/31 is an issue. He would probably want Green before him – more speed and a better back-up SS.
Hey, Green even got a tryout in the first base caddy role last night. Phillips will ride out the season with the club and that’s about it for him.
