This is quite a compelling Allen Barra article from this week's Village Voice on ARod:

http://tinyurl.com/qn9po

In a way, I think that he overstates the case about the fans' reactions to ARod, but he is definitely right about the press and the bizarre Red Sox bias in the Times.

Don't jinx Wang by putting him on that short list just yet! There are still a handful of chances for him to end up with another loss.

Another good game (at the plate, anyway) for Jeter and Cano, too. Has anyone noticed that Cano's seriously challenging Jeter for the best average on the team?

Great game today, at least great results in terms of the W and pitches thrown by bullpen.

Still cant get drive runners in from 3rd w/ less than 2 out and giambi's shouldve been a gapper but once again, its almost as if they knew exactly where the ball would be hit.

Wang was great, but i hate when pitchers fall behind 2-0. He got away with it today b/c even though they are a good team, they have little plate discipline.

Bringing in Proctor at that time rather than Farnsworth (assuming he didn't want to use Rivera for more than 1 inning)has been what Torre's been doing for a while since he prefers not bringing in Farnsworth once an inning has started.

Wang was very strong until the 8th so there was no need to even warm up Farnsworth.

Bailey - thanks.

I just checked the boxscore and saw that Proctor got one out on just one pitch. That means that both he and the Farns are available for tonight's game. I'm actually thinking that Joe figured it better to save Farns for tonight when more of the bullpen will be taxed with Wright on the mound. In that way, I don't think it means anything bad for Farns.

As for Wilson/Guiel, Wilson's been scuffling a bit. It's nice to see him finally get an RBI. I think it had been 2 weeks since his last one.

Bottom line, a win is a win. We're shaving our magic number and that's all that matters.

MJ, we kept getting guys on, but we couldn't get the big hit. Robertson made good pitches when he was in a jam. He also neutralized Abreu (who looked lost against him) and A-Rod didn't do much against him, either.

I thought it was interesting that Proctor was warming in the seventh/eighth and not Farnsworth. Either Joe is saving Farns for the night game when Wright will probably only go five (knowing that Proctor can pitch again tonight), or Farns took a huge step back by being unable to find the plate in Cali. It almost seems absurd, but that's our Joe.

I'm also glad Wilson -- newly mustachioed -- got that home run. You kind of felt like he was one more strikeout away from losing his job to Aaron Guiel. That, too, sounds absurd, but that's our Joe.

My personal name for "Worm Killer" is:

"Cy Wang"

He won't win it, but that's what I'll be calling him from now on. Cy Wang.

PS - I was at work and couldn't watch the game. Any idea why we only scored 2 runs? Were we asleep at the plate?
