Teixeria is great. And, a real solid guy. But, the Yankees better leave 1B open - they have a lot of guys that could end up there soon - like A-Rod, Damon, etc.
=================
Ah, worry about that later... :)

Steve, this might be the wrong place to post this, because it looks like no one will be in this post to read it, but anyway...

Interesting discussion-starter you might want to explore. Apparently -- amazingly -- the Rangers are going to trade Mark Teixeria this off-season. The Rangers don't want to deal with Boras, and Showalter and Tex don't get along. With Giambi a full-time DH now, and Eric Duncan not ready for prime time, Tex is exactly what the Yanks will be looking for -- a young, power-hitting first baseman who's good with the glove. Now Tex is going to demand a huge contract in the future (really, really big -- Giambi big), and I personally think he's a tad overrated (his numbers are down this year). But he's still young and he's a switch hitter who drove in 150 runs last year. I think Cashman would sacrifice a few babies for him. For the Yankees to get in on this, the Rangers would start with Hughes. Should the Yankees even consider that? Hughes for a guy who's going to be making fifteen million (or more) a year soon? I wouldn't do that -- like I said before, I wouldn't trade Hughes for anyone. But what if we could hold Hughes and instead trade, say, Tabata, Clippard and Melky/Duncan? Would you do it? It's just something to think about, because I'm sure Cashman is going to want in on this.

Something else: just about every team in baseball is now interested in Daisuke Matsuzaka. There's no guarantee he'll be posted, but with so many teams in on it now, he's going to cost a fortune. They were already talking about giving the team twenty million dollars. Will it now be thirty or forty million? Is he worth it? If you have to give the team thirty million, and sign him for another twenty/thirty, you're talking about maybe sixty million dollars for a pitcher who has not thrown one pitch in a big-league American game.
