I think he meant that he would not use them during the work stoppage from 94-95. (That would have screwed Ripken’s streak, FWIW.)

He must have relaxed that stance in recent years, because Millar is a replacement player.

That’s my feeling. Better to have players wearing uniforms in the 60′s than to be a fan of some scrubby anonymous team with all the national appeal and historical relevance of an old shoe. And if that isn’t what makes us Yankee fans arrogant and self-righteous, I don’t know what is (and I love every minute of it).

Doesn’t seem wrong to me. I can’t wait until the day I go to the ballpark for Paul O’Neil/Bernie Williams/Derek Jeter/Mariano Rivera Day.

I admired Angelos’ stance on not using replacement players. That’s about the only good thing I can say about him.

Can’t wait for the first triple digit Yankee. (though I’ll probably be dead by then)

And what’s worse is that if TB makes the right moves and sign the right FAs this winter (and up their payroll to around 50M … stil 25M lower than the O’s) they’d most likely pass them …

The O’s have some really nice players too, but they have made some terrible FA signings … Palmero? Ponson? Javy Lopez? (eek)

It can happen to any teams really, the Yankees had many years of close but no cigars up to the early 90s too…
