The Batting Crown Chase

Now that the Yankees have home-field locked up for the post-season, and there’s nothing riding on these last two games, does Torre bat Cano and Jeter one-two in the line-up to help them with the race for the batting crown?

I think Joe will not move Cano up - because it probably helps him not to get a lot of ABs at this point. And, if anything, I bet Torre bats Jeter third now - to try and get him 100 RBI for the season.

And, unless the batting race is close on Sunday, or if Jeter has 99 RBI, I would be shocked to see either of them playing the last game of the season.

All things concerned, including the weather forecast, that’s going to be some line-up on the field for Sunday’s game.

I think he should bat them higher in the order. Let them get their stats up. May as well; they clinch home field today with a win, right?

I expect Torre to be resting games which means Cano and Jeter will get their ABs (especially since Jeter just rested on Thursday). Cano needs ABs. He is 4 ponts behind Mauer who isn’t playing today (day game after night game). The only way to catch Mauer is a 3 for 4 type game and climb. The more ABs, the more opportunities for Cano. Same with Jeter. If he doesn’t get lots of ABs (especially since he has 100 more than Mauer and Cano) he can’t compete.

Cano is batting 2nd. Jeter is batting 3rd.

    Melky is leading off.

Mauer didn’t play today, so if Cano goes 4 for 4, he’ll take over the batting lead (.34728 to Mauer’s .34623). Jeter would have to go 5 for 5 (.34677).

    Well Cano only went 1-4.

Jeter, however, went 3-3 and is now batting .345.

    Mauer is at .346.

Tomorrow looks like a big day.
