• Shea Hillenbrand – Again

There’s a story going around that Hillenbrand is high on the Yankees shopping list this winter because “he bats right-handed and plays first base.”

I was not high on Shea when he was available this summer. And, I’m still not. His lifetime OWP is below five-hundred. He’s a supreme hacker who never takes a walk.

Basically, he’s a Scott Spiezio or Jose Valentin type hitter who some Yankees fans like because he once hit a homer off Mariano Rivera in 2002.

Signing him would be as stupid as it was for the Yankees to sign Todd Zeile back in December of 2002.

There’s a reason why Hillenbrand has been on four teams in four years. He’s a loser. Pass.

Agreed. But keep in mind that there will be a lot of rumors linking players to the Yankees, whether it be agents trying to drive up the asking price for their clients, or the Yankees trying to keep down the price of their intended targets by sending out smokescreens.

I’d go Eduardo Perez for 1 year. It really stinks that the Yankees have no one in their system that could give them a league-average righty bat with decent glovework at first base. Shelley Duncan and Mitch Jones don’t make enough contact. Eric Duncan’s a lefty as well as being at least a year away. And, frankly, Andy Phillips has shown me very little, other than a nice tenor choir voice. Which leaves us with the over-priced mediocrities like Aurilia, Hillenbrand, etc. If only Catalanotto swung right-handed.
