Even the rich Yankees had plenty of below-average players in their line-up last year, such as Bernie Williams, Terrence Long, Andy Phillips, Miguel Cairo, Nick Green, Chris Wilson, Shawn Chacon, Sidney Ponson, Aaron Small. Even Jaret Wright and Randy Johnson had below average ERAs. I think it would be worth a lot to replace all those below-average performances with average performances.

Incidentally, while I love that Cashman sees himself as more of a Wal-Mart shopper, I really don't want to see him take Ted Lilly, Jeff Suppan, and Rich Aurilia and think that's going to get it done in the AL East.
