Another 8/8 game. What were the odds?

Maybe if you see which were day games and which were night games, etc., that will help narrow it down?

Baltimore Orioles 6, New York Yankees 5

Mantle & Maris both played, Ford started and went a couple of innings.

There are only 81 home games. If you can remember something unique from that game in 1964, I bet you can find it on retrosheet.org

I wish I did, Steve. I guess I was too young to really take away a memory of the game; I was 6 or 7 depending on the point in the season we went.

I cannot even recall how we got there, though I guess my father drove us. I only know the opponent was Baltimore so that narrows it down to 9 games. (Baseball-reference.com provides the box for each game, but I cannot tell which one.)

The only other thing I recall is we sat behind what seemed like a cage which I think means we sat behind home plate.

Geez, my first game. It was Saturday, May 17, 1986 vs. the Seattle Mariners. I went with my dad and we scalped LF box seats. Dave Winfield had a huge day, Bob Tewksbury was pitching and got his 4th (out of an eventual 18) win. The Yanks won and I remember being happy that I got my first ballcap. I also remember my dad plugging my ears with his hands when fans in our section were screaming obscenities at the M’s outfielders.

Actually, the game that I saw was on 8/8. The story ran in the paper on 8/9.

Actually, I was unsure on my date. All I could remember was that the Yankees starter came out after one batter and that Sanchez played 3B. So, around 8 years ago, I wrote to the Sporting News and they found the game for me based on that. And, then I went to the library and got the copy of the game account and the boxscore.

Thanks for those memories, Steve. I have warm memories for a lot of those players.

My first game was 9 years before that in 1964. I got to see Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. Sadly I cannot recall the date so I could look it up. I think Whitey Ford was the starter but I cannot be sure.
