Johnson
Pavano
and the other 2 spots taken by 2 of Chacon, Small, Wang, Wright.

Small and Pavano were immediately injured and Chacon was injured in season.

Now, if we make the playoffs next year, the media can ask who are you going to start in Game x, and Joe can say that the pitcher’s name ends in *andy*. Maybe we can lull a guy named Koufax out of retirement or trade for Wandy Rodriguez and have an *all-lefty-andy* rotation. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

They still need to sign Igawa, because he’ll be the only starter who doesn’t have any kind of injury concerns. We now have 6 starters. (Maybe we could go to one of those NPB rotations.) But if we can learn anything from Boston, it’s that you can’t have too much pitching.

I think the intention was to always give him a contract worth between 4 and 5 million per year for 3 years.

I think they will still do that and trade pavano getting 50 cents on the dollar for him.

Igawa is good to have around for 2007. He can go back and forth between the rotation and teh pen before finding his true spot in 2008.

I’m thrilled. One year at $16M gives the team flexibility for 2008 if it doesn’t work out. They can now let some of the younger arms stay in AAA for more seasoning and Rasner, Karstens, and Igawa can be brought along as needed since RJ won’t be ready for spring training and Pavano will undoubtedly slip in the shower or have his leg fall asleep while sitting on the sofa.

I’d still sign Iggy. But I’m be real interested in moving Nancy Pavano, plus one of the new arms we just got and some cash for a young guy with 2 or 3 ability. Unless Andy and RJ and Moose all go down hard, and at the same time, with Iggy on the roster and the young arms we have in waiting, there is enough pitching to get the job done.
