If you were worried about the Yankees losing their “freeze the opposing pitcher during the 7th inning of home post-season games” edge, fear not.

    From the Daily News -

Irish tenor Ronan Tynan is “great friends” with George Steinbrenner’s soon-to-be ex-son-in-law – but the singer insisted yesterday he’s still welcome at Yankee Stadium.

Tynan, who had been scheduled to sing “God Bless America” on Opening Day in the Bronx, said he missed the game because he was sick.

“I was on my deathbed,” Tynan told the Daily News. “I can tell you I was dying with the flu. I had a temperature of 103 degrees.”

When Tynan didn’t sing during the seventh-inning stretch of Monday’s opener, rumors spread that Steinbrenner had banned the singer because of his friendship with Steve Swindal, whose marriage to The Boss’ daughter Jennifer is ending in divorce.

“I can imagine people thought that it was because of my friendship with Steve Swindal,” Tynan said. “No, no, not at all.”

I’ll file Ronan Tynan’s return to the Stadium in my “bad news” category.

Yeah Ben, no kidding. Apart from the wailing, as a fellow Irish expat I wish he’d stop giving interviews describing it as a horrible place.

Er “it” being Ireland, not Yankee Stadium.

It’s o.k. on Sept. 11, but every freakin’ game? Too much.

Agreed. Especially since when Ronan isn’t there they play Kate Smith, whose rendition I will forever associate with the Flyers.
