I didn’t say “even if the starters only go four innings.” Mediocre to me is six innings/four-five ER most nights. Pettitte is normally a lock for 200 innings. Moose nowadays about 180/190. And Wang, since he will miss two starts, might be right around 190/200 too.

They will not go four innings a game. It’s just not going to happen.

I really think you’re overreacting to the start of the season. Were you this worked up when the Yankee’s pitching was just merely okay to start the ’98 season and the bullpen looked like crap coming out of the gate?

This season has had a very weird opening, with the rainout and the weather contributing to it.

I can panic with the best of them, but I’m not even close to panicking right now — it’s just not worth it — and I don’t think you can dismiss the track record of pitchers based on one start (or in Wang’s case NO starts).

And, the pen will be toast by July, and then they’ll have zero pitching by October, just like the last few years.

Meh. It’s a bad first week for Yankee pitching. But if you think about the circumstances, it’s not as bad as it seems.

The guy opening your season was supposed to be the fourth starter; he hadn’t pitched in a year and a half. He got tired in the fifth inning and had to be taken out.

The guy who started the second game missed time in spring training and was also on a low pitch count.

A rainout forced the third guy to go on extra rest, which he hates.

The fourth guy was making his American debut in weather that he’s probably never played in — and the weather affected everyone, but especially starters three and four, who couldn’t throw their changeups.

Starter five was on really long rest and is an inconsistent starter anyway.

So, no, it’s not all that shocking that the pitching has been dreadful (the starting pitching anyway — the bullpen has been more than solid).

Here’s what I don’t get: it’s April, and Rasner more than likely won’t stick with the team (he’s gone once Wang is back anyway). So why didn’t Torre let him take one on the chin for the team? I’m not saying embarrass him or leave him out there to give up ten runs, but would it have killed him to try to battle his way out of the fifth inning?

Torre should never give games away, but if ever there was a day where he should have seen what his pitcher was made of, it was yesterday.

If you want a silver lining: if the starting pitching is even mediocre, this team is going to win a lot of games — despite the horrid performances from its starters, it was in a position to win all the games.

Heck, at this point, bring up Villone. I’d rather burn him out than Proctor, LV, or someone else of value.

it’s getting downright sad. I’d blame it on the weather save for it affecting the Yanks pitchers far more than TB or Baltimore.

Which young arm. I suppose they wouldn’t dare throw Hughes in there just yet. Maybe Clippard. Maybe Chase Wright?
