Phil Hughes Uni Number?

Hughes wore #50 with Trenton last season. In Spring Training this year, as well as in Scranton this past month, Hughes wore #65.
What number will he wear in the Bronx on Thursday?
#65? #50? Something else?
If Kevin Thompson is sent down, maybe Phil will get his #19?
I’d like to see that. I think it would be a good number for him.

No argument from me. #19 is and always will be my favorite number after the great Steve Yzerman.
He can do for baseball what Johnny U did for football. For now though, we’ll take 6+ of decent innings pitched.
19 worked out OK for Billy Pierce and Bob Feller too.
Tidrow?
As someone said in another post, giving Hughes the lowest non-retired number could have some good karma, a la Jeter’s #2. With 2 and 6 gone for good, the lowest is #11. I think Man-Cave-Itch can give it up for Phil Franchise.
I’ll have to go to my “Now batting” book tonight… but why not 21?
It probably won’t get retired for Paulie… and 21 Hughes, 22 Clemens sounds nice.
if they want him to be the next Rocket, give him #22 (and also my authentic #22 that I bought before Robbie switched #s needs a new yankee, so I’m praying it’s Phil)
Pete Abraham says he will wear #65
Anyone up for defending Torre tonight? Unbelievable. I’m hoping for a comeback, but seeing as Rico Bergman and Cabrera are in the lineup due to brilliant strategic managing, I somehow doubt it.
I say Hughes gets #30. (Nolan Ryan on the Mets and Angels.)
They’re holding 30 all year, for Lidle, FYI.
65, huh? Just doesn’t seem like a baseball number.
I never thought that #51 was a number for center fielder either, and that worked out pretty well. Thanks for the Lidle info.
An article by Abraham says he was offered 19 but chose to stay with 65.
My choice would also be 21, but maybe Hughes is superstitious and just a little bit modest by keeping 65 – which can’t be bad at all.
