May 10th vs. The Rangers
12:15 pm ET Prediction: Assuming there’s no rain, the Yankees will win this game today, by a score of 7-2. Worm Killer Wang will go seven. Johnny Damon will hit a homer. Let’s see how close I come to being correct.
Update, 3:46 pm ET: At the end of 7, it’s Texas ahead, 7-2. Looks like I got my teams mixed up with the prediction!
Update, 4:42pm ET: Fourteen to two? Texas set season highs for runs and hits in this game – mostly thanks to Vizcaino and Henn (who allowed a combined seven runs and five hits while registering just five outs). Man, this was one ugly game. I doubt this one will make Yankees Classics. On the bright-side, the Yankees don’t play another game until 29 hours from now. Hopefully they can shake this one off by then…and maybe Darrell Rasner and Matt DeSalvo can finally get this team over .500 again.

hmm…
i am thinking wanger goes 7 1/3, followed by ‘noboby beats the viz’ caino for 2/3, and henn in the 9th.
needless to say, the yanks will win big. zeroes through 4, then abreu, jeter, and arod break out the sticks, capped by posada’s home run.
final: yanks 9, rangers 1.
Abreu will mess up a ball in the OF.
Steve, never make a prediction like this again, please.
~~~Steve, never make a prediction like this again, please.~~~
Yeah, see what happens when I try and be positive!
There’s still some game left. Never give up!!!! Never give up!!!!
Be positive all you want, but we all know how predictions go in baseball – you’re either right or you’re wrong!
Score is 7-1, and Wang did pitch into the 7th. Otherwise, not so much.
Steve’s predictions have as much credibility as Patrick Ewing’s. Just kidding, Steve.
Abreu sucks. This is retarded. He needs to be dropped to 8th and left there for a while. He’s killing this team right now.
Granted, Wang wasn’t on today but Abreu sure isn’t showing any (positive) signs of life.
Beat the Christmas rush and hate Abreu now.
Not only is he a terrible outfielder and hitting
for crap, he shows a sulking personality which is very negative. The Phillies knew what they were
gettinrid of. Cashman take note…let this clown walk next year. And he may be sitting too close to Cano in the dugout.
Steve, you just created your own nickname. “The Jinx.”
How ridiculous is that Cairo is the backup outfielder? He COMPLETELY misplayed that “double.” It would have been the second out of the inning. I’m not saying that Vizcaino and Henn weren’t putrid, but it helps pitchers out if you can catch simple fly balls.
This might be the excuse Torre was waiting for to send Henn down to AAA and call up Villone, who has pitched well.
What’s with all the Abreu hate? Sometimes good players go through bad times — and this is his bad time. He’s a good hitter and he will snap out of it. He doesn’t have a negative attitude — he’s one of the most genial people I’ve ever seen, and he’s been a great influence on Cano and Melky.
Yeah, Abreu is slumping, and he didn’t acquit himself well today, but he’s a good player and if he wasn’t “sulking” then someone would be whining that he’s yukking it up while he stinks. He does need to learn to play the wall better though.
What an ugly game. Can’t help but wonder if that rundown is handled correctly, that things would be a little different. This is one thing that concerns me about this team, they seem to have games where they just have a complete mental breakdown. Losses happen, but when they lose, it’s typically a full-blown meltdown. Oh well. Wang didn’t pitch well, but he battled and it’s too bad the defense let him down, big-time.
Abreu’s sulking? He’s in a slump, what expression do you want? He doesn’t seem to be sulking to me, but he can’t be happy. If he smiled then he’d be castigated for not being serious enough.
It’s like when a viewer “looks into a player’s eyes” and doesn’t see passion. That’s some eyes the viewer has.
I expect Abreu to finish about 410/440 as he usually does – it’s his track record.
Abreu’s power numbers have been in decline and he is a poor OF. Yeah, he’ll have a hitting hot stretch but this is, as I posted a day or two ago, a deteriorating player. Give him his $2 million at years end and say goodbye.
Wang needs to be able to get K’s in certain situations, but he can’t at the present. Hurt him today, and his defense needed help. They sure didn’t help him.
