I agree, even Abraham was blown away by that one. How do you know if Rasner can go further in a game if you don’t even give him a shot in a game like last night?

The way Rasner has been pitching, I almost wonder if Clemens will be much of an upgrade. 5-6 inning starts that keep his team in the ballgame are about what I expect from Roger, and so far that’s exactly what Rasner has given the team, except Rasner will make less on the season than Clemens will per start. Nonetheless, I’m still happy Clemens is coming back, so go figure.

Washburn wasn’t dominant.

Washburn is having a decent year, he looks like his cutter was working well last night, and his slider was on. Lefty having a good night + a lefty-heavy lineup + three lefties struggling (Damon, Abreu, Cano) + one switch-hitter who still isn’t hitting well (Melky) = eight shutout innings.

Washburn wasn’t dominant. I think he gave up seven hits or so. The Yankees never got that big hit to drive in a few, and that’s going to happen when a pitcher can shut down so many of the guys in the lineup.

Since no game shall pass without Torre doing something to piss everyone off (God forbid) — what the hell is he taking Rasner out after five innings for? Yes, Rasner got touched up a bit in the previous inning, but he worked out of it. His pitch count was still low. Why waste Proctor for two innings last night?

You can make the case that the score was close and Torre wanted to make sure they were still in it, but Rasner had basically made one mistake, and he easily could have faced the bottom of the order in the sixth inning.

Torre’s moves truly are incomprehensible to me.
