antone-I have been thinking the same things. Ever since that AWFUL tag at 2nd base, I have been seeing no luck for the Yankees.

It takes more than luck to win games, but it certainly doesn't hurt!

This is semi-related but it seems like Boston has all these crazy fluke plays to win games this season and the Yankees can't get one to go their way. You'd think they would get lucky one game and have some fluke play go their way.

Boston had two this week...the error by the Baltimore pitcher covering the bag and Coco Crisp diving out of the way of a tag against Detroit while running to second base and somehow the umpire thought he didn't leave the baseline.

Just seems like they have everything going for them this year and we don't, but maybe it well even out at some point, that's all we can hope for right?

Pitching wins championships. So does knowing how to play the game, which is how you usually get multiple championships only from certain groups of players assembled together.
============
And they haven't had that kind of pitching in a looong time.

Tigers had pitching last year, it didn't do them a lick of good in the World Series. And speaking of the World Series, Series MVP Eckstein ain't doing too hot this year. Neither is Yadier Molina or Jeff Weaver, who did quite well in the postseason.

//Oh, the next three games are going to be ugly.//

I thought we were supposed to take each game as it comes? Or are you doing the "I'm going to lower my expectations so if they come away with a win or 2 it will seem that much better" thing?

No, all players don't know how to play the game, least not on the same level. Just as there are different skill levels among players so to there are different levels of knowing how to play. Pitching wins championships. So does knowing how to play the game, which is how you usually get multiple championships only from certain groups of players assembled together.

It is an ineffable quality.

Did Tino name names? If he did, fine. If he didn't, I don't give his credibility much weight.
===========
Yep. And even if he did name names, I wouldn't give his credibility much weight.

These guys are professionals, they know "how to play the game" whatever the hell that means.

Damon, Giambi, Abreu, Cano and A-Rod are not exactly ripping the cover off the ball. This means the Yankees are playing with three bats in their line-up against the Mets - with the pitcher also hitting.

All the Mets have to do is not pitch to Jeter, Posada and Matsui and they should be fine.

A good chunk of my family is comprised of Mets fans. Therefore, during gatherings, we often have to watch Met games. I have noticed, in this somewhat limited viewing of Met games--I also watch when there's no Yankee game as I am addicted to baseball--I have noticed that when the Mets face good pitchers, they get nothing done. On Easter against the Braves, specifically, they got men on base, but not even Jose "I steal every base ever" Reyes could get anywhere.

They have some big bats, but can easily be shut down if the pitching is good. Pettitte is Pettitte--he faced virtually this same team last year, I'm sure, with the Astros. Rasner has been relatively good. Have they named a pitcher for Sunday?

I don't really see what there is to be afraid of. Perez is good when he's on--but when he's not, he is oh-so-bad. Glavine gives up home runs and Maine hasn't had his best stuff in his past 2 starts. All in all, I think there's hope yet!

I'm not saying i necessarily want the manager to turn over the buffet table because we know it is not his style. However sometimes i do wonder where the self accountability of the 1996 - 2000 vintage Yankees is on this team . Tino told M. Kay
in an interview he didn't think eveyone played with the urgency and passion of Jeter and Posada. Troubling. Does the Captain take charge and challenge some of his teammates?
