I am with baileywalk. Yankee fans aren't acting like the loyal fans of yore.

As for the Mets gear--I am currently sitting in an aiport in Miami waiting for a flight back to New York. While waiting in line to pay for a bottle of Diet Coke, I notice a young man in a royal blue backwards cap staring at me. Staring at my hat and sweatshirt, to be exact. When I make eye contact briefly, he smiles smugly and turns his hat the right way to reveal the orange Mets NY. For all he knows, I could be borring a sweatshirt/hat from someone and have no clue what it even is.

Just makes me chuckle. My Met fan friends and coworkers are smiling smugly, saying things like "Jeter leads the elephant train" (I have weird friends) and that's ok--because it's friendly banter. I've never gotten a smug smile from a stranger.

Could just be Miami.

That eighth inning was so goddamned frustrating. Farnsworth gets screwed during the Beltran at-bat, throwing a strike right down the middle that gets called a ball. Then they walk David Wright -- the smart baseball move, but just because he hit two home runs off a lefty specialist doesn't make him Babe Ruth; they were treating him like Barry Bonds after that -- it was hilarious. And then, of course, there's Cano: First off, Franco hits EVERYTHING to right field; sometimes, you see teams overshift to that side. So Cano isn't even playing him correctly. And THEN he rushes a throw on a FORTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD player! C'mon, Cano, use your friggin' head for once. This guy is almost fifty. You don't have to throw the ball while on the ground to get him. And even if one run scores, it's better than letting the inning get away.

I know Peter Abraham and others love when Farnsworth fails, but he's really been getting screwed left and right -- blown calls, bad defense...

Right now, it's not the losing that is so bad -- it's the whining, bickering fans. I took one look over at LoHud after the game and the topics were panic, send Cano to AAA, and more panic. Me -- I was just happy that the team hit a little and scored some runs (though they did let Glavine off the hook again and again).

Clearly the best thing to do now is watch the games and, win or lose, leave it at that.

Boy, when things are going good for Mets fans, those guys can break out the blue, black, and orange stuff faster than a cockroach runs for cover when the lights go on.
=================
It happens when a team becomes successful. Look at recent Yankee Stadium attendance compared with attendence 10-15 years ago.

I thought they were going to tie the game, then Farnsworth comes in the game.

Oh well, that's life these days. A Yankee loss, is like a Knick loss, they are to be expected.

I'm glad they play so late today, I'll be much happier watching The Sopranos and Entourage. I'll still hit the 'Last Channel' button on my remote, then I'll get frightened and go back to family hour on HBO.

I am seeing a ton of Mets gear out there now, but I don't hate the Mets or their fans. I don't even know why they think there's a rivalry between both teams. It's not like it was the Yankees winning the NL East all those years. The Yankees could win every game against the Mets and they still could not even make a dent in the standings against the Sawx. For me, it's all noise. What I do hate is when I listen to Yankee fans that say, "I'm gonna start rooting for the Mets". Holy crap, how can any normal person do that? I heard this dude say that and I was floored, if anyone does something like that then that tells me a lot about the person. I find it disgusting, but to each their own.

I can't deny that I watch Met games because I love watching Jose Reyes. My favorite player for a long time has been Vlad Guerrero. My favorite player doesn't have to be a Yankee, and other than Mattingly and Righetti, most of the time I have a favorite player I watch closely and he's hardly ever a Yankee.

BTW, did anyone catch that update from Pete Abe that Susan Waldman "bitch slapped" Christoper "Mad Dog" Russo? I like Susan a hell of a lot more than Russo, I'm on her side.

Go Yanks!!!
