If I need a strike out I'm going with Bruney all day every day...small sample size or not...

but either way it doesn't matter, they just aren't playing good baseball, they probably would have found another way to lose.

Fact is, whoever Torre brings in seems to fail (see: Rivera, Mariano as an example this year), and silly fans blame the manager.
------

Bruney hasn't "failed" in a long time -- he hasn't given up a run in a long time, either. He's also, to bottom-line it (again), the best strikeout pitcher in the 'pen. I didn't hear any post-game interviews with Torre, but we can safely assume he wanted to strand that runner at third with a strikeout. If that was in fact the plan, he chose the wrong guy.

"Silly" fans may blame Torre for everything, but sillier fans think everything he does is right. Whenever you think ANYONE is right all the time -- that anyone, in any walk of life, is infallible -- you can pretty much guarantee you have no objectivity about the person.

I don't even think it's Torre's fault that the team stinks -- I just think he exacerbates the problem with poor in-game management.

I don't think it's a good thing, like Joel suggested, that the team fail miserably. About the only good thing that would come out of that is a top-ten draft pick.

It just gets worse and worse--on and off the field. Now this A-Rod story. I mean--you can't make this stuff up. Unbelievable.

Yankees fans, let's look at the bright side: Maybe it is better to have a total, complete, embarassment of a collapse that forces the Yankees to blow this team up rather than a slow decline that management feels can be fixed with an aging star here or there.

Clarity is a good thing.

I agree it's all Torre's fault. But there always has to be a fall guy, that I understand. I just don't get the logic that Torre is the reason this team sucks elephant balls.

Now the NY Post has a great big piece on ARod with some hot chick in Toronto and calling him stray-Rod. What a f'ing joke, who gives a crap and why do they do that? F'ing Rupert Murdoch, what a piece of shit. This pretty much gurantees ARod is going to leave NY. I guess it goes back to him dissing reporters.

Why didn't the Yankees protest when Glasses ran smack dab into Phelps -- he was clearly out of the runner's alley, and while he beat the throw, I think Josh would have kept the ball in front of him preventing Hill from going to third (and thus stealing home)?

Grr.

Arod's fielder's choice in the first wasn't a mistake. The runner had a great break to the plate and would have scored easily.

I turned on the radio near the end of the game and Sterling was still harping on that play.

Plus, I like Torre's thinking about bringing in a player who had last a tough outing to show he has confidence in him. Torre made the right call. Proctor just didn't execute.

Yeah, that's some sample size on Bruney. Bruney, the savior of the 2007 Yankee bullpen. Maybe he can hit in the clutch as well......

Fact is, whoever Torre brings in seems to fail (see: Rivera, Mariano as an example this year), and silly fans blame the manager.

i agree about using Bruney there instead of Proctor. especially this year when Proctor is k'ing very few hitters - just 5.5 per 9 ip. on the other hand, Bruney has 9 k/9.

Don, give the you-pick-on-Torre BS a break. If you need a strikeout, who do you bring in -- the guy who strikes people out or the one who doesn't? Bruney is the only strikeout pitcher in the 'pen (since Farnsworth isn't this year).

Look at their numbers this year and tell me who should have been in there in that situation.

And, oh, Proctor, what a proven track record there. One good year in the bigs, and coming off an outing in which he lost the game, walking in two runs.

Even the most abject Torre apologist can't overlook this one. You do realize that Torre can be wrong once in a while, right? Or does his making the decision automatically make the decision the correct one?
