Clete Boyer Passes

Clete Boyer passed away today. A friend had mentioned to me, a couple of years ago, that Clete was not doing well. The same friend had a chance to meet Boyer and had wonderful things to say about him. He sounded like a man’s man.
I always wanted to stop by Clete Boyer’s Hamburger Hall of Fame Restaurant in Cooperstown – but, I never got there.
Hopefully the Yankees will give him a nice tribute on Old Timer’s Day this year.

Clete’s Hamburger Hall of Fame closed a few years ago, but I think he still had a summer place in Cooperstown. He signed autographs daily last year in front of TJ’s on Main Street. I’m not talking a few hours, but all day, every day. For $15, you not only got a signature, but a rollicking good time if Clete was in the mood. He regaled us with great stories, and smacked my wife on the behind with a fly swatter for blurting out she was a Met fan! He was great, and I’ll miss him when we go back next year.
