Point taken. But why does it have to be that Torre and Co are embarrassed by Wright?

Can’t they just think he’s not that good or ready to pitch in the majors? Embarrassment or not, giving up 4 homeruns to your closest rival on national television is not something to be proud of by him or the Yanks. So if that makes them reluctant, I don’t get how that’s a bad thing. I’d be reluctant too, especially when the team had been playing so poorly. That’s why I didn’t think the Hammels comparison correlated in this instance.

The Hammels homeruns can be chalked as one bad inning from a potential ace, the Wright homeruns were chalked up as “this guy doesn’t belong here” and I don’t see how that’s an embarrassment to him or the Yanks.

Again, you miss the point.

The reason the Phils don’t feel shame is because of who Hamels is (a great pitcher having a great year).

Chase Wright, on the other hand, is not a great pitcher having a great year — he’s a not-all-that-young guy who made a jump from A-ball.

When a great pitcher does something, people assume “oh, it’s an aberration.”

When a not-so-great pitcher does something, people assume “man, he sucks.”

The Yankees assumed the latter, quickly pulling Wright from the game and demoting him immediately. They never even considered bringing him back up, even when they were running Matty DeSalvo — novelist, genius, inspiration to short men everywhere — out there when the team needed wins.

If I’m comparing Hamels and Wright, it’s in the negative. In other words — how bad is it for a so-so guy like Wright to give up four consecutive homers if a great guy like Hamels gives up three?

In my mind, not that bad. Or not enough to assume he can’t pitch in the big leagues.

In Torre and Co.’s minds, it was an embarrassing stain they needed hide.

Then you are inferring that the Yanks are shameful of Wright. That’s a comparison my FRIEND. You are comparing Wright’s consecutive homeruns and how the Yanks handled it versus Hammels consecutive homeruns and how the Phils handled it. Let me guess you weren’t trying to make that inference.

The Yanks didn’t feel any shame with Wright, they sent him down to the minors where he belongs. It’s no different then if your parents sent you back to the magic kingdom to get your red balloon that exploded when you were 8. They want Wright to get his confidence back and eventually help them, the Yanks. You, on the other hand, there’s no getting back your balloon, confidence or self esteem. I think therapy at 100/hour is what you need, let me know if your inner child needs a hug.

Garcia, you bring joy to my life with your idiotic comments. My entire POINT is that Hamels is six billion times the pitcher that Chase Wright is, yet he also gave up three consecutive home runs. The not-so-subtle point being: even a pitcher as great — and he is GREAT (I’ll say that even though it’s only his second year) — as Hamels can do it, so the shame the Yankees apparently felt over Wright’s performance was out of proportion.

It’s not to be ashamed of. It’s more fluke than anything else. Three solo home runs are still just three runs.

Anyone catch Moose’s after-game comments? I guess he didn’t feel comfortable waving Torre back to the dugout again…. Anyway, I like this attitude from Moose, a lot of people are upset because they think he just wanted to get the personal win but I like to see the fire from him. Besides, I wouldn’t be happy to see Myers coming in for me either.

I think a lot of pitchers would be satisfied with their outing after throwing 6 shutout innings, and I’m glad that Moose wanted to do more.

And I’ll listen to “Rocket Relaunch” all day so long as I don’t have to see some of the guys that have been thrown out there this year.

I think last night’s game was huge for Mussina. Everyone (Steve I believe) has been saying if Mussina doesn’t have his low 90’s fastball he’s not going to win. Well, last night he figured how to do it with an 86-88 mph fastball. If he does that for the rest of the year or till his fastball comes back, we’re golden. Sometimes winning is about finding how to win with what you have. Mussina is a master at that and at reinventing himself.

I’m going to tack “Mussina is finished — he doesn’t have his low 90’s fastball so he’s not going to win.” right up there with “Derek Jeter is no longer the shortstop he once was. He’s lost his range.” as two of the most singularly uninformed baseball comments of the current times. Joel Sherman was mouthing off the latter a few days ago.

I agree with your assessment of Farnsworth but I don’t understand how you view the manager’s role. Are you saying that if you were a GM,you would tolerate a manager not playing your multimillion contract “Bridge” to Rivera?

I think Joe threads a difficult job. You know he agrees with you. The Yankee announcers agree with you. Joe will continue to play Farnsworth until he gets traded, sent down, or the coaches coach him successfully and he gets better. That’s the team that has been assembled for Joe.

If Joe needs a starter and they give him XXX, do you fault him for starting XXX? He doesn’t control that. You sound like he should be sending in Okajima.
