I met Kay a number of years ago when he was working for the NY Daily News. He seemed like a pretty sincere guy then, one who genuinely liked what he was doing. I can appreciate a guy who stuck with his dream.

Still don’t like him as an analyst.

I will echo the sentiment that O’Neill and Girardi ripping on Kay is hilarious because I think Michael Kay is a D-bag (yes Michael, we know that A-Rod hates pop-ups). BTW – whats the deal with everything being sponsored when you listen to the radio broadcast (ie the first pitch, the 15th out etc). It’s hard enough to listen to those two let alone having to deal with that crap

Going along with Garcia, mostly I like the YES team for the color, especially O’Neill and Girardi, but Murcer has been great since he came back. Especially with the Tony Pena moustache thing, where Bobby offers to shave his head if they win another 9 in a row. Rbj, thanks for (not) mentioning the White Sox team. They are undeniably the worst in baseball, and now they have a team that’s sunk to their level. I’m in the car a lot, and often listen to SF Giants on the radio out here – their radio team is excellent. Jon Miller is way better on radio for SF than on ESPN with Morgan; he’s actually pretty hilarious, and they have Dave Fleming, who’s good, and Kyper and Kruco, all very good. Too bad the Giants couldn’t field a team against Boston. Very disappointing.

I 2nd RedBug’s comments about Kay. My brother loves the guy, but I find him highly annoying.

In Kay’s defense, I do find the booth to be most entertaining when O’Neil and Girardi are there, too. They seem to keep him honest. I think he’s much better with those two than w/o. The sum of all their parts makes them much better than Kay. I like Ken Singleton on a 75 degree day, with no humidity and I’m dozing off between the 3rd and 7th inning, he’s good at putting me to sleep.

BTW, I was at last night’s game and there was some electricity there. What a fun night at the ballpark. The place was packed. The best thing about the Subway series is that it brings all the best of NY women baseball fans to the yard, both Met and Yankee fans. NICE!!!!!!! No complaints from me when you see a nice looking girl with a Wright jersey walking by. They can make your Wang feel just Wright. Especially after such a dominating performance from Wang.

He just seems like such a good teammate and I love how all his teammates seem to pull for him. Not saying they don’t pull for Pettite, Clemens, or Mussina. It just feels different with Wang, like he’s their kid brother.

I voted no, but agree with Andrew — Kay’s there for the casual fan, not us baseball nerds. And maybe that’s the role that YES assigned him “Michael, we want you to ask dumb, basic questions so that the unknowing fan can feel like he knows what’s going on.”

And I agree with mehmattski — there are a lot of announcers out there who are really terrible, like Rod Allen in Detroit (and let’s not get started on the White Sox guys). The first game of a series they’ll always let you know what the Yankees’ payroll is, as if it is some sort of state secret they’ve just discovered, or else use it as an excuse for when the Yanks clean their clock.

I liked Kay when he was w/ Sterling but I can’t stand him on TV. The move to YES blew out his ego.

Also, I can’t stand how much he second guesses Joe when the Yanks are down. He’s only a Yank fan when they win. Otherwise, he’s like every other spoiled, ignorant fan who assumes the Yanks aren’t trying and will never win again.

I love Sterling & Waldman. Esp Waldman. Of all the broadcasters, she knows baseball best. And, I love Sterling’s enthusiam.

I voted no. But as bad as Kay is, the radio tag team of Sterling & Waldman is unbearable. And they were extended?!? How about a poll on them?

The Kay/O’Neill/Girardi booth is great for the simpjle fact that the two of them rip on Kay so bad that it’s hilarious.

I guess it was at the series in Chicago, cause I remember it happening a lot and that’s when it was Kay/Girardi/O’Neill, Michael Kay would do his “I’m gonna bring something up we’ve talked about at least 16 times in the past week and pretend we haven’t talked about it yet, and also, you eat a lot Paul O’Neill” thing, and O’Neill or Girardi would just say “yea, we talked about this…but I’ll answer your assinine question anyway, Kay.” I can’t even count how many times one of them started a response with “We metioned this/talked about this on X day, but…”

In other words–ditto Jordan. But again, I’d still take him over pretty much any other announcer I’ve heard in this season, at least.
