Okay. I get to have a Woody Paige moment. Look at the schedule, guys!

Here it is:

Three against San Fran.
Three against the O's.
Three against Oakland.
Four against the Twins.
Three against the Angels.

As I said in an earlier post, San Fran absolutely stinks. Matt Cain is pitching in the first game, so I would expect to take two out of the three. The O's have struggled badly all year. They play us tough, but I would suspect that would be another series victory. Oakland has good pitching but a lousy offense. The Twins are the same as Oakland, though their pitching isn't as good. And we all know the horror that is the Angels.

So, realistically speaking, I think out of those sixteen games, we should win (at least) ten of them. That would put us at 45-41, four games over. Even if they only won nine of them, that would still be three over. Steve, how do you have us four games UNDER (or WORSE?!) heading into the ASB? Do you think these teams are just going to pummel the Yankees?

I would be shocked if the Yankees went into the ASB under .500. Unless the Angels screw everything up and sweep them, they should be disappointed with anything worse than three games over (and that's being pessimistic).

I predict the Yankees to be 6 games over by the break. You are too negative, man. They ran into a very hot team the last three days. I do think they should have one yesterday--too many stupid mistakes--but they were just flat out played the first two games.

Check the schedule baileywalk. What's your prediction for their record at the ASB?

So, the Yankees are now "just" a .500 team again. And, there's a great chance that they could be around four games under .500 (or worse) by the All-Star break.
----

Your faith in the team is inspiring.

If the team is below .500 at the break why would you expect Torre to be blamed for the performance?

The mental errors by Jeter and Abreu were bad but I don't find fault in Cano being doubled off.

The wildest mental error was Sterling's when Melky hit a sac fly in the 7th. Sterling announced it as a homer and not by messing up by trying to get in "it's high, it's far..." etc., he thought it was a homer and called it as such until Suzyn corrected him that it was a sac fly.

That seemed to fluster Sterling more than usual because the last couple of innings Waldman would make a comment or tell a short story and about 1 1/2 minutes later Sterling would say the exact same thing as if it was new info. That boy should be checked for a cerebral hemmorage.
