Bruney sucked yesterday. He was horrible, and he's no longer reliable. I'll take him over Myers, Villone and Farnsworth, but only because they are even MORE horrible.

(Which is why it's even more infuriating that Britton and Ramirez aren't given a shot.)

You're right, though. That seventh inning had a lot to do with the pitchers. The thing I object to is turning Villone into a one-batter pitcher right there.

Bruney was really a goat yesterday. Walking someone to load the bases for Bonds and then walking in a run (the second time in two days that Bonds got walked with the bases loaded)? The Yankees better hope that Farns comes around, or Proctor and Vizcaino are going to get overworked as they did to start the season.

baileywalk, I like Torre and you hate his managing.

It's bad he 'over-managed' in the 7th but I don't hear you taking Bruney or the others to task for not doing their job. I like Bruney and I think you're often endorsing him. If he does what he's supposed to do the Yanks have a better opportunity to win the game.

I have to agree, some of the personnel moves have been beyond baffling. Ramirez looks like a total stud, so let's see what he has. Maybe Duncan can come up and the Yanks can catch lightning in a bottle- Phillips is a nice guy but he can't get it done in the bigs. Britton is an upgrade. Why is Basak even on the roster if he can't hit for Proctor there? It's just baffling.

And don't play Cairo at short -- his arm is weaker than Damon's.

Iconnu, if it's Torre's fault for yesterday's loss does he get credit when the Yankees win?
------

That's the most hoary, dishonest bullshit. When the manager's decisions come into play at a critical time and they fail, yes, it's PARTLY his fault. When they work, yes, he's PARTLY the reason they won. That's how it works.

NoMaas already detailed all the gaffes, but why was Torre trying to take the bat out of Alex's hands late in the game by have Bobby bunt? That's the decision that really stands out as being asinine. And Torre had no problem in other games using Mo for more than one inning, but on this day he couldn't? Under no circumstances? It's better to burn out Proctor for three innings and give up on an inning by letting Proctor bat? Maybe if he hadn't over-managed in the seventh, using Myers, Bruney and Villone, he would have still had a bullpen. I mean, his starter pitched into the seventh inning and he had no bullpen left by extras.

I don't normally go Pete Abraham on this team, but that had to be one of the most pitiful games I've ever seen. THIRTEEN HITS off of Morris in six innings and they only score four runs? This team can't score in the NL because you have Cano not getting a strike and swinging at junk, and then Cairo, who hits like a pitcher, and then the actual pitcher. How does the team justify playing Phillips and Cairo when Shelly Duncan is slugging like a monster in AAA? Even if Shelly came up here and embarrassed himself, isn't he worth a two-week look? At least there's a HOPE he can hit (which no longer exists with Phillips).

And I totally agree with you guys -- say good-bye to Myers and/or Villone and get Britton and Ramirez up here already. And get rid of Basak -- is he Torre's pet or something? Does anyone even realize he's on the team?

Raf - I tend to agree with you that Alex will sign with a team that has a chance to contend, be that in New York or in another city.

Having said that, however, he DID sign with the Texas Rangers who were coming off a 71-win season in 2000 and weren't realistically expected to be contenders with ARod (even if they did blow bad money on Chan Ho Park in the same offseason). So, it's at least possible that Boras convinces ARod to chase the dollars again, even if it means going to a team that doesn't have a bright future.

I'm not saying he'll go to the Nationals but I don't think the Giants are a total stretch. Lincecum/Cain/Lowry is a good young rotation in a division where worst and first aren't separated by that much.

To Inconnu I will say this: Torre's no genius but he's not the worst manager in baseball today. There have been more than enough blunders in recent memory that should've been the final nail in his coffin but, the truth is, the grass is always greener. Would you trade Torre for Grady Little? Jim Tracy? Sam Perlozzo? Objectively speaking, Torre's neither the best nor the worst manager out there. He's a solid middle-class manager whose main strengths are undersold and whose main weaknesses are what plague nearly all the bad managers in baseball.

Raf - you think the Giants can't use a bat like A-Rod's and Alex can't use tons of the Giants money? Really?
==============
Giants aren't going anywhere. What's the point? Rodriguez should be looking at a team that has a shot in the postseason.

He may go to Boston, he may go to the Angels, he may stay with the Yanks (especially if they don't retain Posada)

We don't know where he'll land, but it's pretty much a given he's opting out

You forgot to thank Joe "clueless" Torre for being the worst manager in baseball today.

Why is Mike Myers on this team? Why does Torre continue to use Damon instead of just putting him on the DL??? If Abreu bunted on his own - get him out of the 3rd spot in the order. If the bunt was called - FIRE Torre now. Abreu is a joke. You think he came out of his funk, and he goes back to bunting with men on base - STUPID.
