I am very suspicious of that $35,000 bail.

I see only 2 ways in which bail could be that low in a case involving a potential life sentence–

1) The chance of both a conviction and the end result being a life sentence is very low.

2) Pressure or influence is being exerted in the case.

And, Mr. Furious, by statute, in all states, sex with a minor below a certain age is, by definition, sexual assault, regardless of whether it is consensual or not. In Hall’s case, the only reasonable inference is a consensual situation (putting aside the issue of whether a child is too young to consent). Even putting aside the life sentence aspect, there is no way that bail would that low if this was a forcible rape situation.

I was merely pointing out that there was a national news organization that labelled Hall as a Yankee, as opposed to a former major leaguer.

I sincerely doubt anyone of sound mind is going around saying “well that just confirms my belief that NYC/the Yankees organization/baseball in general is a den of iniquity”. This is not a big deal.

Raf’s right. The Chicago Tribune’s report leads with “Ex-Cub Mel Hall…” and for the most part he played his last 4 seasons in MLB with the Yanks.

Actually, now that I think about it, that really isn’t fair to Polonia. IIRC, Polonia’s offense was consensual sex with a 15-year-old, rather than sexual assault.
