    Steve–

Gary Sheffield against LH pitching this year: .432 OBP 1.009 OPS

Bernie Williams against LH pitching last year: .398 OBP .936 OPS

    Steve:
Can you try and find this stat:

Percentage of times we score a runner from third and less than 2 outs.

It didn’t matter last night, but we are probably close to last in the league.

    Lineups

    YANKEES
    Damon DH*
    Jeter SS
    Matsui LF
    Rodriguez 3B
    Posada C
    Abreu RF*
    Cabrera CF*
    Cano 2B*
    Cairo 1B*

    Phillips PH-1B*

That’s 5 batters in the lineup performing under league average. 6 if you count Phillips, the option off the bench.

Is it any wonder they lost last night? Any wonder that they’ve been losing?

That stat of the day not only based on an incredibly silly premise, but also one that would make the Yankees look even worse if it was applied.

The article says that, if you give the Yankees wins for games in which they would have won if they scored more, we’d be ahead of the Red Sox.

The flaw is, if you give teams wins for games in which the offense cost them wins, it is a certainty that we would lose ground to the Red Sox.

The Red Sox have the 3rd worst offense in the league, with -24 RCAA.
