• 1st Half Tragic Number Is: Two

Between tonight and next Sunday, if the Yankees lose two games, it’s a lock that they will not be a .500 team at the 2007 All-Star break.

In a nutshell, New York needs to go 6-1 in their remaining games of the first-half to be above .500 at the break.

Considering that the Yankees will face the Twins and the Angels in those seven games, I think the odds are against them – in terms of being a .500 team to start the second half of the season.

Twelve days ago, I wrote: “…there’s a great chance that they could be around four games under .500 (or worse) by the All-Star break.” I probably should have written “around five games under .500 (or worse) by the All-Star break.”
