Bonds is a different case, as he has shown that he really doesn't care what the fans think. Regarding Rodriguez, something you didn't hear much of in the news last year...

tarnished:

the point was that arod, new york, 250 million bucks, etc. etc. that as a human being he would be better off on a small market team, out of the limelight, making less money and having less gifts as a player. poorly expressed, my bad.

some gifted players can deal with it, others can't. don't you find it amazing that barry bonds withstands the kind of pressure he does without totally losing it, mooning the fans, whatever? I do.

The other day Michael Kay made the point that the biggest house on broadway was only a few thousand and there they don't boo you or scream obscenties at you when you're on stage (well usually not)

These are flawed people and part of it is the stress they live under. If the best you can do with all that money is hang out at strip clubs and date body builder babes or show up at a family venue with fuck you written on a t-shirt, well the best I can hope for is that you take that shit to milwaukee, for lack of a better place. I know they're just ballplayers but some ballplayers are inspiring on AND off the field.

what's the real arod family? Hey, I don't know. All I see is what I read in the paper. You can't dismiss it all; but it's a hell of a lot different from Andy Phillips life and his family (last thing I heard his wife, after recovering from cancer, is volunteering at some missionary camp in belize; he was having trouble contacting her to tell her he had been called up).

We get gifts from God and they demand a response from us. I'm always a little saddened when the response falls short.

When I hear a story about someone I like, say Bill Murray, and it shows that he is exactly the sort of person I had imagined he would be, it's uplifting. I guess that's all I'm saying here. Asinine psychobabble? How kind of you to hazard a guess...

dereksTeam -

AROD should probably be playing for Milwaukee? What?

Are you dipping back into the asinine psychobabble? I am not getting your point there at all.

derek -

Do't forget that the media does a nice job of distorting things too - especially when it's convenient for sales. Who's to say what the "real" A-Rod family is like? We'll never know.

Well thanks to baileywalk for explaining the trailer hitch remark and I will second his charge of hypocrisy.

I'm reminded of Deniro playing Capone in the Untouchables when Ness says to him "Yeah! Come on, you guinea son of a bitch!" and he replies "What? You talk to me like that in front of my son? Fuck you and your family! "

Your defense that all the words are OK and a 7 year old (as well as the occasional 60 year old) wouldn't understand is a little lame.

You want a Yankee who leads a good Christian life, try Andy Phillips. People who lead the lives the sort Arod and his wife do, are under incredible pressure and become distorted. It's more sad than anything else. He has a great gift but probably should be playing for Milwaukee. I wouldn't waste any sense of outrage over anything he or his wife does.

But expressing your outrage as a Father while making hooker blow job analogies, however vague, is right up there with the DeNiro line. Yeah, you are done on the topic.

Still not going to take the bait?

How about a slut that loves NY and the Yankees (as A-Rod has made us well-aware of)?

Thanks Jen. I apologize to any and all who I may have offended. That was not my intent - when I made the statement. Basically, I wanted to share that I thought she was dressed like a slut. Sorry if I was off target with that one.

//What? You saying that guys can take the chrome off too? Where is it written that only applies to women?//

It's misogynistic and offensive to women Steve because you were referring to a woman. You made a totally unfounded comment based solely on a shirt that she was wearing. I found it to be out of line and offensive.

I spend most of my internet time on sports sites. And in doing so I have wade through quite a bit of sexist comments and such. Most of it I can ignore because they are petty things that I really shouldn't let bother me quite so much. But you went too far Steve.

That shirt is almost certainly an FCUK shirt. Still not appropriate - for those who don't know (50%+) the message is the same as if the C and U were reversed.

Meanwhile, still no analysis, Steve, on why she would wear such a shirt?

I'm shocked. Shocked, I say.

If she wanted to say that to the press, there are much better ways.

No, that's a statement aimed much more broadly. It was nice watching you A-Rod.
