    ...a frog?

Not bird, nor plane, nor even frog, it's just a little 'ole baseball blog!

I was cleaning out some very old clothes today – getting ready for a Goodwill donation – and I found the above shirt. It was a shock find – but a good one. I had no idea that I still had this shirt.

It’s a Yankees replica batting practice jersey – circa 1984-85. (I know the year because I remember getting it as a gift from some friends in the summer of 1985.)

And, it’s in great condition – since I haven’t touched it in about 20 years. You just can’t find polyester shirts like that any more!

Ah, the days of Mike Pagliarulo, Bob Meacham, Joe Cowley, Dennis Rasmussen, Omar Moreno, Ron Hassey and Bob Shirley…why do I miss them so?

Anywho, this is probably the oldest piece of Yankees garb that I own. How about you?

      I’ve got a “Billy’s Back” T-shirt from the #4? #5? rehiring. Too small now.

I had one of those BP jerseys too! But I got mine in the early 90′s. I loved the way it just felt right.

You hadn’t touched that shirt in 20 years? Jeez, some fan you are… ;)

So, how well does it fit?

      rbj,

No way! I have the same T-shirt (somewhere). Mine’s gray with an animated version of Billy kicking dirt. Yours too?

brockdc, Mine’s white (or at least it originally was white) It’s been sitting at the bottom of my trunk for many years now (decades even, gulp). I got it as a promo gift they were handing out at the stadium.

The lineups are posted over on Pete Abe’s blog. Damon’s in LF today with Mats at DH. Nice move by Torre.

Steve, don’t forget Henry Cotto, Butch Wynegar, Dan Pasqua, and Ed “Javier Vazquez” Whitson.

My oldest piece of Yankee attire is a mesh ballcap that my dad bought for me in the parking lot en route to our first game together, May 17, 1986 (vs. Seattle). That thing still exists somewhere but it’s got Wetteland-like rings of filth from entire summers worth of playing stickball in the playground. Besides that, there’s a really ratty Don Mattingly t-shirt that I got back in 1993. I still wear it though, and will until it literally disintegrates in the washing machine.

A Thurman Munson autograph pin that my mom gave me a few years ago.

MJ – I was a Henry Cotto groupie…sorta. I just liked the guy.

      B – that’s a good pin to have.

Raf – it fits great, now. (Not something I could have said a year ago!)

I stole an old pennant from my Dad when I was a kid, He got it from the Stadium back in the 70′s. It’s older than me!
