Weirdly enough, I’ve heard that Lopez serves primarily as George’s bodyguard in these recent months of his failing health. I guess he’s everywhere George is so… At first blush, this may seem like merely a case of nepotism-by-marriage but you never know. Most commenters on these blogs would stipulate that he couldn’t be more wrong-headed than the Tampa mafia that we’ve railed against for years.

How did Felix Lopez get himself in such a position of power? I heard when he first joined the family it was a big to-do about his wife demanding he have equal standing to Steve Swindal, and they gave Lopez some minor job to shut her up.

I don’t know what has happened since then, but it seems like he’s risen to a fairly important role in the business.

I thought it was like generally accepted that Torre was gone after this year. Does anyone really think he’s coming back? Even if they win the W.S. I expect he’ll retire.

He can’t need the money, or the hassle anymore.

I think it’s telling that he lauded Cashman, but when asked about Torre, he switched to speaking in generalities. I think it’s a pretty safe bet at this point that we’ll be discussing the new Yankee manager at some point soon after the season.
