Hey, I Thought They Had A Global Brand?

Somebody should tell Larry Lucchino that the Evil Empire does not extend its tentacles as far as he thinks. Maps don’t lie, do they?

(Hat tip to Deadspin.)

That map does. You live in Jersey. Would you say it’s half Mets, half Phillies?

And, an amazing number of people walking around with “B”’s on their caps these days too!

In all the obfuscation of the current, trendy Red Sox Nation hype, people tend to forget that, in New England, there were almost as many Yankees fans as Red Sox fans up until the mid-’90s. In fact, it was often an irritant to Red Sox fans who grew up in the ’60s and ’70s. A Red Sox fan I know actually got a Yankee cap as a birthday gift when he was 12 from his uncle (who lived in Vermont). And, Mike Lupica, yes, the reviled Mike Lupica, grew up in New Hampshire in a multi-generational family of Yankees fans. Those who hate Mike (as we all do nowadays) should read his “Summer of 98″ for testimony to his lifelong love for the Yankees.

Was that ficton by any chance? His columns seem to belie that notion.

I have that book. Never read it. Maybe I should!
