Check out these 2007 Yankees Batting Averages (BA) coming into the game today for New York:

    Alex Rodriguez .304
    Jorge Posada .336
    Hideki Matsui .299
    Derek Jeter .323
    Robinson Cano .309
    Melky Cabrera .297
    Bobby Abreu .285

That’s seven full-time players with a chance to bat .300 on the season.

The 1931 Yankees had 6 players with 502+ PA that season and a .300+ BA. The 1930 and 1927 Yankees had 5 players with 502+ PA those seasons and a .300+ BA. No Yankees team has ever had seven players with 502+ PA in a season and a .300+ BA.

There’s still many games left to this season – and a lot can happen. But, it will be interesting to see if the Yankees Magnificent Seven can pull this trick off this year.

Just imagine if the Yankees had a full-time DH and a full-time first baseman who could also hit .300 or better. Then we might be talking about nine guys instead of seven.

They’re on pace for about 960 runs right now. Considering that month long slump they had, that’s pretty damn good.

Frankly, I’d rather see them have 4 pitchers with ERA’s under 3. Right now, we’re at

      Pettite 3.80
      Clemens 3.92
      Wang 4.10
      Hughes 4.44
      Mussina 4.76

Wang and Hughes are realistic.. I’m not sure if Mussina has enough starts. But hey, that’s a helluva rotation.

I think when it’s all said and done the 2007 Yankees will look great on paper (except for the bullpen.) As you mentioned, we’ve got 7 offensive starters who can probably hit .300+ for the year, as well as 3-4 guys (Posada, Jeter, ARod and perhaps Giambi) who will have OBP’s over .400, a 50 HR hitter, a 30 HR hitter and 2 guys with 20+ HR’s, 3 guys who have 100+ RBI (Matsui, Abreu, ARod and possibly Cano and Posadsa) and average/above average defense. I just hope they finish strong and can find some consistentcy in the playoffs.

I’ve got to say I’m more excited about this team than I have been in probably the last 3-4 years.

I think everyone on that list could go lower than that down the stretch, but not by a whole lot, conceivablly i think they’ll finish in this Range

      Andy: 3.60
      Clemens: 3.90
      Wang: 3.85
      Hughes: 4.10
      Moose: 4.50

Andy and Wang are both big time late season pitchers, espically Andy , I think Roger will have a few ups and downs, as will Hughes but he’ll consistently trend better. Moose has been somewhat unlucky, befoer last game he actually strung togher a long string of good starts to drop his ERA by a mile, i think that will continue, though not at such a pace.
