• Can Alex Top Two Charts?

Today, YF at Yanksfan vs. Soxfan wonders about the chance of A-Rod catching the records of Barry Bonds and Pete Rose.

It’s an interesting question. How about the A.L. marks for career homers and hits? Can A-Rod catch Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb for those marks?

What about the A.L. career leaders in homers and hits by a RH-batter? That’s Harmon Killebrew and Paul Molitor. If Alex stays in the league for the rest of his career, I think he passes those two – no problem.

This thought about Alex breaking the HR and total hit record is from Bora$$. He has been touting this for a week or so. No way does Alex break the hits record.

Worse, it is already becoming a circus re: the HR record. So I hope not to see them wheeling Alex out there in the twilight of his career so he can break the HR record. At least not in a Yankees uniform. I hope Alex opts out and we can wave him goodbye. The team will survive, maybe thrive, without him. There’s no ‘I’ in team. A platoon of Betemit and someone else at 3rd, with much better pitching in 2008 and the team will be fine.

If the pitching is not much better in 2008, the team will be in the same position it is in 2007. That is: five (5) games behind for the AL East, and trailing by three (3) in the loss column for the wildcard on August 21.

how do you figure? A-Rod this season has won so many games!just yesterday he had hits that put the yankees in the lead. Without him this team is nowhere near the position it is now. And besides, the pitching WILL be better next year. Hughes will have experience and a start out of spring training to give him confidence. He will mature more as a pitcher. Then you have Joba, no need to say anymore. Why not have that AND the besth itter in baseball? Sheesh.

When Alex said it was going to take him hitting a bunch of Joe Carter home runs in the World Series to get some people on his side, he must’ve been thinking of Don. This team would be so far beyond screwed without him this year, and some fans want to let him walk. I don’t get it.
