Here’s someone in the Yankees chain that we should start to keep an eye on…Staten Island Yankee Justin Snyder…who keeps getting on…as his on-base percentage is a league-leading .488 and he leads the league in hitting at .375.

Snyder was drafted out of the University of San Diego in the 21st round of this year’s draft.

Primarily a third baseman earlier in the season, he’s moved to second base and center field before settling in at shortstop recently.

Baseball America ranked him as the 191st best overall prospect coming into the 2007 draft and thinks he profiles best at either second or center field in the majors.

We might be seeing him in the Bronx around 2010.

More weirdness about prospects from you, Steve. You champion Brett Gardner as the next Yankee centerfielder and predict Justin Snyder (who’s playing in short-season A) will be in the Bronx in three years (!). Yet you kind of trash Hughes, who’s the youngest starting pitcher in the entire league.

A prospect has to succeed at AA before you can realistically think of them as a future part of the big-league team.

Just because I cite the radar readings on the YES coverage, I’m kinda trashing the guy?

You may not be aware of it, but there is a difference between the way you’ve covered Hughes and Snyder/Gardner.

Whether you’re wrong or right about either player remains to be seen. And as always, you’re entitled to your opinion, I just wanted to point out that there’s a difference in tone between players you “like” (for lack of a better word) and players you don’t like.

Where’s the tone in this entry about Snyder? Everything I wrote, sans the last line, is a FACT – not an opinion. The last line is a guess at his ETA. Because of that, I have a great tone about the guy?
