Too small of a sample to draw any conclusions. Tom Glavine (age 21) was 2 and 4 in his first 9 starts with a 5.54 ERA. In 50 innings he’d given up 55 hits and 33 walks(!), with only 20 strike outs. His ERA was above the league ERA until he was 24. If Hughes is Glavine, we’ll all be very happy.
Here’s another one…
Age 20…First 6 games… 2 and 4, 31 innings, 44 hits, 20 walks, and 20 K’s, ERA 5.52 (vs. lg ERA 4.06). Same guy… Age 21, 6-14, 155 innings, 181 hits, 74 BB (!), ERA 5.61 (vs. lg ERA of 4.29). And our mystery guest is….. xuddam gerg
