Ben Kabak at RAB linked to a story yesterday that reported Jorge Posada is “in the process” of converting a floor in a building at 77th St. and 2nd Ave. into an apartment – at the cost of $3.5 million.

I’ve seen the Posada’s current home featured on various YES shows in the past. It’s a huge place – in New Jersey, if I recall correctly. It has a baseball field built on the property for Jorge’s son too.

It doesn’t seem to make sense to have a place in New Jersey and a place in Manhattan – even for someone at his salary level. I wonder if the apartment news is a good sign, or, a bad sign?

It’s a good sign if it means that he wants to live in New York and play for the Yankees. It’s a bad sign if he’s selling his place in New Jersey, and just wants an apartment in the city for when he was foundation work to attend to, etc. – and he’s planning on buying a house in the state where he’ll play after this season.

I would think that the Mets, Cubs, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and maybe the Tigers (if Pudge is a Free Agent) would have an interesting in picking up Posada next season.

Cashman better handle Posada better this off-season than he did Pettitte back in the winter of 2003. Hopefully, he learned a lesson back at that time.

Do you always type “was” when you mean “has”?

Thanks Harry. I just fixed that. I’m a terrible typist and a worse proof-reader. That’s my downfall on these types of things.

Could be any number of things. Maybe the wife and kids will be basing themselves elsewhere during the season, or the kids will be going to school in the city or something. Or they just got sick of maintaining a mcmansion out in Jersey.

Crazy that David Wright with his huge contract has a $4.5million mortgage, right? What must the monthly payments be on that place?!

I’m almost positive that the place you’re thinking about with the field in the yard is in either Florida or Puerto Rico. I thought they did that YES thing during the off-season and it was rather warm where they were.

I have to think you’re right, now, Jen. I just found this:

looks like Jorge and Co. already live on the upper east side.

Just waiting for Posada to tell us that his next deal is to make his family financially secure. Barf.

BTW……. What sort of deal is an aging catcher worth? Posada will turn 37 next August and is having a so-so season defensively. Anything more than two years is probably foolish. Maybe two years with a third as a team option.

I think you have to give him 3 with a team option for a 4th…because of supply and demand.

My memory is Stienbrenner had the problem w/ Andy, not Cashman.
