Yeah, but the simple and obvious point is that Hoffman has never had a big save.
====================
There really haven't been that many save opportunities during the postseason; he's only had two blown saves, one which he vultured into a win. He was able to convert 4 saves.

He's had 13 postseason innings in his career, hardly enough to make an assessment.

He's had "big saves" down the stretch, he's had blown saves down the stretch.

Hey, it happens, I know a guy who blew games in the 1997 ALDS, 2001 World Series, and 2004 ALCS - but, he's still a Hall-of-Famer in my book.

What a mess. In my book, the Yankees get the prime-time slot every night they play as they are they league's premier franchise.

And to add insult to injury, the Red Sox get a prime-time slot over the Yankees on a Friday night. I'm sure the Yankees were thrilled with that.

Can baseball finally just admit that Trevor Hoffman stinks? This guy blows every big save. He blew in in the '98 World Series, the All-Star game, and TWICE this year to clinch the wild card. He's awful -- and it's not about choking; it's about stuff. He is very hittable. He comes out there with his 85 mph fastball and his change. No one in the majors has to respect 85 mph. No matter how good that change is, they can still sit back. I know he has 500+ saves, but he is not dependable. He's probably the worst arm in that bullpen. Bell, Brocail and Thatcher were awesome out of the 'pen -- any of them could have come in and gotten three outs before giving up three.

Hoffman may well end up in the HoF, but I guarantee you that Padre fans hold their breath every time he pitches.

Also in that game: Peavy is the best pitcher in the NL, but he didn't come up big for his team at all; he was bad to start and then couldn't hold a lead. With Cameron out, they had someone with no business playing center and it killed them. And Brian Giles -- nice throw home, dude. He was out at the plate (and seriously, what a horrendous call in a huge moment), but he threw that ball up like he was going to serve it.

Is anyone watching this SD-Colo game? Wow! Well I guess we've seen Jorge Julio and Trevor Hoffman both blow it in big games before. But what a meltdown by Hoffman!
