My Memory Lastings Longer Than He Did
Reports say that the Mets have traded Lastings Milledge to the Washington Nationals for Brian Schneider and Ryan Church.
I would say something about it, but, I’m afraid that someone would call me a pious, self-righteous Yankee blogger.

This goes to show you what a disappointment Milledge has been so far. At one time he was being discussed as the centerpiece in a trade for Barry Zito (and Mets fans didn’t want to pull the trigger on it). Now he’s being traded, in his own division, for an old defensive catcher and a so-so hitting outfielder.
Maybe I’m a hypocrite, because I always say people are judging Hughes (and others) too soon, but when I saw Milledge play these last few years, I kept asking, “What was the hype about?” I was underwhelmed by his size, he didn’t look like he would hit for much power, and his fielding was terrible. THIS was the guy people compared to Delmon Young coming up through the minors?
Cameron Maybin struggled, but I look at him and I see what others see: an athlete with unlimited potential. I saw the same thing with Carl Crawford, before he broke out.
You see Delmon Young and you know you have something.
I never got that sense from Milledge. And this trade indicates that either Omar got fleeced or GMs felt the same disappointment.
Cameron Maybin or Delmon Young may not have been fair comparisons but he’s certainly got more potential than a 31 year old catcher who is an absolute black hole at the plate and a fourth outfielder. I have to say, you want to talk about overhyped, that’s what Omar Minaya is as a GM. This offseason for the Mets makes me feel like he’s got something less than a clear plan on how to build his team. Three catchers?! There was talk on WFAN about how the Mets might non-tender Estrada if they can’t trade him. Good grief.
