Kennedy: Member Of ’04 Red Sox Used PEDs
On the drive home tonight, from work, I caught the very last minutes of The Show on X-Radio (MLB Home Plate) with Rob Dibble and Kevin Kennedy.
At that time, Kevin Kennedy was addressing a caller who had some thoughts on the Mitchell Report.
I was pretty surprised at what Kennedy had to say there. In wanting to make a point about the Mitchell Report not being the all-inclusive bible of naming PED users, Kevin Kennedy said that a current colleague of his, who was with the Boston Red Sox in 2004, told him that he (the colleague) witnessed, for a fact, a member of the ’04 Red Sox injecting himself in the buttocks with a needle full of PEDs. Kennedy said that the user is no longer a member of the Red Sox – but, he was a player on the team that won the ring in 2004. As per Kennedy, his colleague said that the “user” was giving a demo (to the “colleague”) on how to do the injection.
It’s pretty interesting that Kennedy would throw this out there, in the last few minutes of a radio broadcast. I wonder if anyone will pick up on it? Too bad George Mitchell missed this one.

Millar? Mueller? Bellhorn?
Did Mitchell talk to Paxton Crawford? If not, why not?
The bigger question is who is a colleague of his that played on the 2004 Red Sox. Is he considering Millar a colleague because of the piece he did for FOX. Or is it David McCarty who would be considered a colleague since he is in-studio analyst for NESN on Red Sox game days?
And as for the former player it could be a handful of guys. There are only 8 players from the 2004 Red Sox that are still members of the current team.
Considering how fast he broke down after 2004, I’m going to say it was Keith Foulke. Hmm, retired a bit early, didn’t he?
And if it was Keith Foulke, well, I don’t think any Sox fans will be able to ever reference the ‘juiced’ 2000 Yankees team – as Foulke was a central figure in the Sox’s 2004 run.

Mueller, Nixon, Bellhorn…even Damon. As others have mentioned, there are so few left from 2004 there.

Could be any of the guys mentioned, and many more, but this one is a slam dunk certainty, which, btw, traces back to a Rangers team that probably lead the league in PED’s. This guy was so proud he was posing for magazines….

Said it when the report came out… Mitchell was a duplicitous partisan while in office. I have no reason to think that rat has a different tail. I’m not saying he made stuff up, but that, unquestionably, he chose who undress and who to ignore. And, if someones name popped up that might look bad for the Yankees, he’d have no trouble throwing someone in based on innuendo.
The whole Mitchell Report is a joke, either investigate the whole league no matter how many years it takes, or don’t do an investigation at all. I just think the whole thing is really half assed and makes baseball in general look like a bunch of idiots.
Who cares if a member of the 2004 Red Sox used PED’s? It doesn’t change the fact that they won the WS that year, nor does it taint their accomplishment. If there were a handful of PED users on every ballclub from 1996-present then how could we possibly say which WS titles are tainted and which ones aren’t? Further, why do we care?
The whole “Yankee Dynasty is tainted” crap started when the flawed Mitchell Report listed a good portion of Yankees. Since anyone with half a brain knows that the report was incomplete, it would therefore be ridiculous to assert that NY’s WS were tainted (since the competition might’ve been using PED’s as well). And if the Yanks’ titles aren’t tainted, then neither are Boston’s. Well, apart from them being from Boston (a hellhole, if there ever was one).
IIRC, the Mitchell Report included names of 20 players with Yankee connections. There were 19 current or former Orioles named. Now many of these guys also played for several other teams, so you get a lot of “taint” for your steroid dollar here. Anyway, what’s worse: tainted championships, or ten consecutive tainted losing seasons?

Kennedy could have been referencing a ‘colleague’ that was a reporter or correspondent for FOX who had access to the Sox clubhouse – who said it had to be an ex-ballplayer?
To Kennedy: name names. Otherwise, don’t waste everyone’s time which such nonsensical rumormongering.
Q, if Kennedy did that he might as well retire from broadcasting as he’d never get anyone to talk to him even off the record. Plus, it’s hearsay.
All the more reason, Mr. Faded Glory, for Kennedy to keep his trap shut about saying such drivel. Without any kind of evidence, why would he say such a thing, just to bring attention to himself?
