I just noticed that Britt Burns will begin his first season with the Astros organization as their Minor League pitching coordinator.
Britt Burns. Ah, December 12, 1985, when the Yankees traded Ron Hassey and Joe Cowley to the Chicago White Sox for Burns. Not one of Clyle King’s better moves. A degenerative hip condition, huh? (Yeah, I know, “It seemed like the right move at the time.”)
Did you know that Britt Burns used bobby pins to keep his baseball cap on? That should have been a “tip off” for the Yankees, right there. You don’t trade for ball players who use bobby pins.

Just goes to show, that every GM has their bad moves… They were frequent trading partners back then, wonder what was up with that?
Back to back 2nd place finishes (85, 86); Maybe keeping Niekro in ’86 may have made a difference.
Interesting note about the bobby pins. I wonder if Oscar Gamble used them too? Guess it makes sense, since they had already traded for a player that wore hair curlers (Dock Ellis

In the article, Mariano Duncan is mentioned as a Dodgers coach. “We play today. We win today”. Wasn’t that Duncan? Will he be coaching for Joe Torre?
Mariano Duncan is the Dodgers 1b coach, and has been for two years. Bowa will be coaching 3b, Mattingly will be the bench coach.
Mattingly got bumped back down to hitting coach. Bob Schaefer will be the bench coach.
Mattingly really should have taking the AAA job, assuming Cash offered it to him. It would seem to be a more certain path to becoming a manager.
