Cashman Concerned About Yanks Pitching
Via Kat O’Brien:
Asked about his main concerns as spring training begins, Cashman rattled off a half-dozen things. Not surprisingly, every concern was related to pitching.
Cashman wondered aloud how Pettitte might be affected by a winter spent weathering allegations of human growth hormone use (which he admitted) and the resulting congressional hearings. He wondered if Mike Mussina will recover from a rough 2007, how the young pitchers will perform, whether Kei Igawa will pitch as well as the Yankees hoped he would when they signed him, and whether people will step up to bolster the bullpen.

Concern is O’Brien’s word.
There are almost always concerns with any pitching staff, given that unnatural muscle movements and torque are required to throw a baseball, but it’s apparent that Cash (like many of us) is very optimistic about the composition of this staff.
I’m concerned about the innings limits on the Big 3, but one positive is that we have got a lot of depth in the minors. Guys like Alan Horne and Jeff Marquez could make cameos at some points to fill the gaps. Look at is this way, no mater what happens our rotation will be much better than it was last season (the ultimate revolving door of starters) and we still made the playoffs. It will be better this year, we’ll be in good shape. Check out my blog:

Cashman’s reference about Pettitte gives credence and encouragement to what was a hysterical media creation to begin with. About which the Yankee organization had no center, no cohesive response. Most of what was said about Pettitte was lies and lawsuits should have been filed. If any negative publicity were due about a “report” that wasn’t really a report, it should’ve gone to Paul Byrd and the Cleveland Indians. But the reverse happened. The NY baseball writers named the Cleveland Indians’ Eric Wedge ‘Manager of the Year,’
while he had the most tainted post season pitcher. The media never says 2 shots of HGH can’t possibly benefit anyone, yet here is Cashman buying into the hype about a so-called report that was a publicity stunt to begin with. The Yankees should have no further comment on this issue.
